Electronics Assembler - Temp-to-Hire
Day Shift | 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM | Hampton, VA
This is a temp-to-hire opportunity for candidates seeking long-term stability with a growing organization. The role is day shift (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM), Monday-Friday, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch. Occasional overtime may be required.
This position involves electronic and electro-mechanical assembly work, including soldering and microscope-based tasks. The Hampton, VA facility supports advanced, high-reliability products used across aerospace, defense, automation, environmental monitoring, electronics, medical technologies, and research applications.
Job Responsibilities
General Assembly & Production
- Perform electronic and electro-mechanical subassembly tasks under close supervision.
- Assemble units such as power supplies, modules, chassis components, cable harnesses, PCBs, and system subassemblies.
- Solder and de-solder through-hole and surface-mount (SMT) components.
- Install and remove discrete components including resistors, capacitors, transformers, inductors, transistors, and ICs.
- Follow production drawings, sample assemblies, work instructions, and verbal directions.
- Apply established workmanship standards to all assembly activities.
Technical Tasks
- Interpret and work from schematics, bills of materials, and wiring diagrams.
- Mount components using hand tools, soldering equipment, and test instruments.
- Connect wiring between components, connectors, and terminals according to specifications.
- Use fixtures and alignment tools to correctly position parts.
- Perform connection operations including crimping, riveting, soldering, welding, or cementing.
Precision & Inspection
- Perform hand soldering and microscope-based work as required.
- Conduct basic inspections, in-process testing, and go/no-go assessments.
- Identify defects, troubleshoot, and perform rework/repair as needed.
- Maintain quality standards throughout the production process.
- Record production data accurately on logs and forms.
Additional Assembly Operations
- May perform potting, encapsulating, epoxy bonding, cleaning, sanding, color coding, curing, and similar tasks.
- Follow safety protocols when handling chemicals and materials.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma required.
- Vocational/technical training preferred.
- 0-2 years of related assembly experience.
Skills & Knowledge
- Basic understanding of ISO or AS9100 standards is helpful.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen is a plus.
- Ability to use hand tools, soldering equipment, and inspection tools.
- Experience with ERP or production software is beneficial.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
